Pelletierung

Problem statement

Upgrading regional agricultural biomass and residual materials into new products

Executive summary

Processing the agricultural biomass and agricultural residues into Pellets with the following uses a) fodder, b) litter and c) fuel by hydrothermal treatment

Value chain description

In the Halbenrain pelletizing plant, various raw materials are used including a) Meadow hay, b) Corn cob, c) Straw, d) Husks, e) Lucerne, some of the additives which are added include a) activated carbon, b) molasses, c) cereals. Raw materials are steam treated or granulated to convert them into pellets by hydrothermal process. Nature conservation hay pellets can replace the crude fibre pellets imported from abroad in pig feeding.

Market deployment considerations

In addition to selling the pellets, income is also generated from selling the service of processing of farmers´ own biomass into pellets used by the farmers themselves

Environmental considerations

High degree of renewable energy production, application of novel, energy efficient technologies. Circulation of nutrients and carbon.

Social Considerations

In addition to selling the pellets, income is also generated from selling fibers
